Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Back in 2018, Dad was painting the outside of the house when he started to get chest pain, so he came inside the house to make my mum aware he had pains in his chest. Mum called 999 and a paramedic came out, after assessing Dad they confirmed he was having a major heart attack and needed urgent care. He was driven down to the Porthleven Cricket club and the Cornwall Air Ambulance landed to take Dad to Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro  for urgent medical care.

Mum and Dad live roughly 20 miles from the hospital, the helicopter paramedic Jeremy who treated Dad said they had the matter of minutes to get Dad into hospital. Within minutes they arrived at the hospital where Dad was taken into theatre to have a stent put in his artery that was 99% blocked which caused the heart attack.

We all thought Dad wouldn’t pull through as he had such a big heart attack. Had the Cornwall Air Ambulance not arrived my Dad wouldn’t have survived. We can’t express enough how important the Cornwall Air Ambulance is, especially in a county with a lot of landscape. The speed of the helicopter and the paramedics on board were just amazing and we could never thank you enough for saving his life.

Unfortunately, Dad went on to have more treatment as they found out he needed a Triple bypass which he had done in December 2018. It was from this day, Dad never really recovered and he was let down by miss diagnosis with his lungs. It came apparent he had asbestos scarring which lead to pleural thickening on his lungs. He had several hospital visits/stays and home care but in the end he couldn’t fight the illness any longer and sadly passed away in March 2021.

Dad always wanted to go to Cornwall Air Ambulance when he got better to make a donation, however that day never came, but he couldn’t thank them enough for all they did the day they saved his life.

In memory of her Grandad, Daisy has given herself a challenge to run 65km in the month of April, which is 2.1km each day for everyday in April. Dad was 65 when he sadly passed away so we thought that number is appropriate.

We would appreciate any donation for this great charity who are saving lives everyday but also in an area that can be in the countryside and not near a hospital. Any donation will be greatly appreciated in memory of Keith Simmonds.

Thank You so much for taking the time to read our story.
