Story

Singing Hands Concert and Auction to Raise Funds for Down’s South London – March 6th 2022 @Telferscot Primary School, Balham London

We are coordinating a “Singing Hands” children’s concert and an auction to raise funds for Down's South London, a local children's charity.

Down’s South London provides early intervention through multi-disciplinary therapy. In every session a very small group of children are surrounded by highly specialist professionals in three main disciplines: physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy. This therapy service has adopted a standardised assessment tool called “Bayley Scales of Infant Development”, which provides a baseline of each child's development over time compared with typically developing children. These results are evidence of the effectiveness of this therapy approach, which is reassuring for families and therapists, and helps us to ensure that every child that attends our charity service reaches their full potential.

Down’s South London isn’t just about  therapy, though. It’s a network of families that support each other, and it has made a tremendous difference to our whole family throughout the years, making us feel less lonely in the journey of raising a child with special needs.

Not long ago I read something that struck me: “She believed she could so she did”

Down's South London is all about that. It’s about having faith in our children and empowering them and their families. It’s about early intervention. It’s about building a community of parents who have a CAN DO attitude, and that at the same time are there to support each other when the going gets tough.

Note from the organiser: Down’s South London is a charity that is very close to my heart, as it has supported our eldest daughter Emma (who is now 6 and has Down’s Syndrome) since she was 4 months old. I’ve been a board trustee of this organisation for nearly 5 years now. Hundreds of families have benefited from this free service over more than 22 years. I’ll be eternally grateful for their support, and it’s because of that I’m asking you to please show your generosity and donate to such a wonderful cause.

Please join us by joining our children’s concert (it’s a lot of fun!), participating in the auction, or simply showing us your generosity by donating via this website.
