Story
On 2nd August our team of 13 brave cyclists are riding in honour of Emma Brooks. They are: Berty, Edward, Florence, & Lily Brooks, Mark & Roxy Thornton, Rob & Anna Horne, Hannah Shanks-Weston, David Bennet, Jonathan Donoghue, Ross McFadyen, Peter Crawley will ride an incredible 100 miles to raise money for an amazing cause – to fund a much needed specialist piece of equipment at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
The David Adams Leukaemia Appeal Fund was set up by Mandie Adams McGuire MBE almost 25 years ago in gratitude after her husband David had been given two extra years of life through the treatment he received at The Royal Marsden.
This year the team, through your support, will be funding a highly important piece of laboratory equipment needed in blood cancer research. It will be a very sophisticated instrument which can separate normal cells and cancer cells extremely accurately. The Royal Marsden Hospital’s haematology diagnostic laboratory processes 6000 samples each year and this new machine is of fundamental importance to further this research strategy.
A majority of the team will be riding in loving memory of Emma, who recently lost her battle to the disease. This passion highlights the need to continue fundraising, so that one day a total cure can be found. Your support will mean so much for these amazing riders and for a hospital totally committed to cancer diagnosis, treatment and care.
