Why 871km?

Between 2010 and 2020, an average of 11 million hectares of land was deforested every year. If you take into account natural forest expansion and reforestation efforts, still 4.7 million hectares (47,390 square km) of forest was lost every year.

871km (542 miles) is the distance you would have to travel to go round this net area of forest lost per year, for the last decade.

We are going to run, walk and cycle this distance over four weeks. As we can't meet up in person, we will be completing this mission across the UK, from as far south as Bristol, all the way up to Glasgow, recording and sharing our progress with you every week.

Who are we?

CurieUs Games is a group of eight STEM graduates in the energy industry, passionate about education and the environment.

Our vision of the future is one where people are curious about living sustainably, thinking about the why and the how.

As part of our mission we want to raise awareness of the scale of deforestation that is occurring, as well as raise funds for Eden Reforestation Projects. Eden Projects reduces extreme poverty and restores healthy forests by employing local villagers to plant millions of trees every year. They are responsible for at least 333 million trees being planted since they started in 2004!

What do we do?

At CurieUs Games, we want to inspire curiosity and explore global problems in a fun way. To do this we make games! 

MegaWatt is a card game that challenges you to solve the problem of supplying sustainable energy in our ever changing climate.

For every game of MegaWatt we sell, the profits are also donated to Eden Reforestation Projects, planting at least 10 trees per deck!
