Story
The Crypt Factor raises vast sums of money for local charities St George’s Crypt and The Leeds Fund, which is managed by Leeds Community Foundation, and has raised more than £780,000 since its launch in 2006.
St George’s Crypt is a homeless charity in the centre of Leeds.
We have been working with homeless people since 1930
and have used this experience and knowledge to develop a
comprehensive service, that not only combats the revolving
door of homelessness but provides clients with an opportunity
to re-engage again with their local community, whilst they are
learning to manage their addictions and deal with their issues.
This involves rebuilding self-respect and confidence, shedding a
chaotic lifestyle that involves rough sleeping and dependency,
developing the skills to live independently often for the first time
in their lives.
The new and final part of our service is to provide move on
housing for people who are developing these life skills and
seeking pathways back into employment. St George’s Crypt
currently have two developments - Regent Terrace and Hedley
Chase Leeds, which will help to provide this accommodation.
To help fund these exciting, innovative developments we have
developed ‘Angels of the Crypt’. ‘Angels’ are people who support
the work that the Crypt is doing with homeless people and also
want to drive change in the city of Leeds.
We hope that you will help us to break the cycle of homelessness
by becoming an Angel of the Crypt and an Angel for Leeds.
Leeds Community Foundation connects people who want to make
a real difference to our city.
23% of our young people live in poverty. Those living in some inner
city areas live 10 years less than their wealthier neighbours. 15,000
of our residents over 60 years of age are intensely lonely, often
having no human contact from week to week.
Thousands of charities and voluntary groups across the city work
tirelessly to address these inequalities and help their communities.
We launched The Leeds Fund in 2016 to invest in these groups and
support Leeds, now and in the future.
Last year the Foundation supported 600 groups, who in turn
helped over 100,000 people. When investing in Leeds Community
Foundation, donors know that our rigorous due diligence ensures
their money reaches the people who need it most and has the
biggest possible impact.
Together we aim to create a city of opportunity for all.
