We Peer support for Mental Health to aid recovery through lived experience

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are honoured to be working with "Take Off" to help raise money for people in need of mental health care, advice or simply being heard. Take Off are a Kent based Mental Health charity who work on a peer support model so most of their services take the form of self-help groups, which are either “talking” or “doing” focused. Due to the current situation, they now offer telephone services nationwide to reach as many people in need as possible

"Take Off works for better physical and mental health and we recognise the two are intrinsically linked. Furthermore, we are aware of the link between mental health problems and economic hardship, which also bring loneliness and lack of occupation and purpose".

As a Crossfit gym, our emphasis is on staying healthy in body and mind, and that community & exercise can improve our mental wellbeing. We wanted to work with Take Off as they also promote the benefits of community, groups activities, exercise and being in nature as ways to heal.

It is estimated that as many as 2 out of 3 people in the UK with suffer from Mental Health problems with the number of new cases growing in 2020 due to the Covid crisis. Think what this means in terms of those closest to you? It is so comforting to know that  charities like Take Off are offering such support but we all need to do our bit to support and help them to flourish.

With this in mind, Crossfit Putney are challenging you to put your body & mind to the test for a good cause! Starting on Monday 8th February there will be 4 weeks of challenges with a new one starting each Monday.

Absolutely anyone can get involved (you don't have to be a Crossfit Putney member). Feel free to drop us a message on Instagram and share this Just Giving Page with family, friends and colleagues to start collecting donations. Also share your stories and challenges on social media so we can make this a real community event.

Please encourage everyone you know to get involved especially if you think they might need some extra interaction right now and let's make this month really fun!

Best Wishes

THE CHALLENGES

Week 1 - A Mile in Their Shoes (Monday 8th - Sunday 14th February)

Week 1 will challenge you to clock up as many miles as you can between 8th-14th February. You can walk, run, cycle, Erg…anything!

This challenge is to highlight that mental health recovery is often a marathon and not a sprint. Mental wellness is a process and it can take time, but each small step in the right direction matters so much.

you can use the Strava app to track your miles and then post them to social media. Please ask your family, friends or colleagues to sponsor you either per mile, per day or for the week. There will be little CFP prize for the member who clocks up the most miles.

Week 2 - We will not break! Burpee challenge (Monday 15th - Sunday 21st February)

Week 2 will challenge you to perform 100 burpees as fast as you can. This is a great way to test your current fitness level and encourage some healthy competition!

This challenge is to highlight that sometimes we will all come up against challenges and it's good come together in solidarity and let each other know that ‘You Got This”.

Week 3 - Keep Pushing On (Monday 22nd - Sunday 28th February)

In Week 4 we would like you to perform as many push ups as possible in a 2 minute window each day. This is a chance to push yourself to achieve a few more reps than your previous attempt.

This challenge is to highlight how achievements, no matter how small, can play such a great part in peoples mental wellbeing.

Week 4 - Lunges for Life (Monday 1st March - Sunday 7th March)

Week 4 will require you to perform lunges each day to match the amount of money we have raised so far!

For this one, we would like you to ask a friend or family member to join in virtually because as we all know, training together keeps you accountable and is more fun!

This challenge is to highlight how group exercise can help us to gain confidence, self belief and battle loneliness. This is why it’s so important that EVERYONE has access to group exercise and this is where your sponsorship money will be going.
