Story
Coronavirus Emergency Homeless Appeal urgently need your help. The homeless charity Alabaré is working around the clock with young people, Armed Forces Veterans, care leavers and young parents with babies who find themselves on the street.
Alabaré's Homeless Service Manager Sue remarks, "Rough sleepers do not have access to the soap and water we are all using to help protect ourselves. They do not have the means to self-isolate. The vast majority are more susceptible to illness and many have complex underlying health problems. If the virus does spread, homeless people could be amongst the first to die."
The homeless people Alabaré support are extremely vulnerable to Coronavirus; 75% of their homeless clients have underlying health issues* and many have no one else to turn to.
Major General John Stokoe CB CBE says, “In these challenging times, those who have fallen through the cracks of social care need help more than ever before. Alabaré picks these people up and gives them the support they so desperately need.”
Coronavirus is already putting huge strains on Alabaré financially. Their charity's services are facing unprecedented challenges and are putting emergency procedures in to place.
Professor Sir Deian Hopkin, Chair, Wales Remembers 1914-18 notes, “The extraordinary measures that we are taking in response to the Covid-19 would have seemed unimaginable a couple of weeks ago. There are many people suffering at this time, and Alabaré’s Coronavirus Emergency Homeless Appeal is doing its very best to provide support for a particularly vulnerable group, the many homeless people across our country. While you may be getting many requests for donations, Alabaré would be particularly grateful for your generous support at this time.”
As you would imagine their fundraising events over the next 6 months have all had to stop and they are facing an immediate loss of at least £100,000 at a time when they desperately need that money to help save lives. If they are unable to raise this money quickly, this virus could even threaten the charity's survival and that would be a disaster in and of itself.
Professor Michele Russell, Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, states, "COVID-19 presents risks to the existing homeless, many are our veterans, people who have long term physical and mental health issues, also predicted that job losses will force many to the streets. The inability to self-isolate makes them particularly vulnerable. The situation is at critical level now, yet it is not unsurmountable to tackle this. It will only happen if we take measures of compassion to provide additional financial support."
Please donate today and help Alabaré save lives.
