Story
Years 4 and 6 at Copley Primary School, Halifax, have been learning about the lives of refugees as part of their literacy units. Year 4 have been reading 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' and Year 6 have been reading 'The Arrival' and 'No Ballet Shoes in Syria'. Both classes have also taken part in the Write For Rights campaign held by Amnesty International and their work this half term has been exceptional.
The whole school have taken part in the Orange Hearts campaign by St Augistine's, Halifax, and the children in Years 4 and 6 have decided they would like to go one step further and raise some money to help refugees and those seeking asylum. As refugees and asylum seekers often have to face injustice and hardship, the children have decided they would like to empathise by giving up their right for free speech for a whole school day (6 hours).
Their enthusiasm is inspiring, and they are determined to make a difference.
Well done, everyone!
