Story
In memory of our dear friend Samuel Crawford, we are raising funds for the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, in gratitude for what they have done and to support the heroic work they continue to do.
On the 8th March 2022, Samuel, Stephen and myself set out to climb Ben Nevis. On our descent, the sun came out, melting the snow which quickly refroze, making conditions treaturous. Samuel tragically slipped and fell and passed away on the mountain.
Heartbroken and traumatised we couldn't move and very quickly dark clouds came in, the wind picked up and snow started falling heavily.
The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team had been called but where unable to reach us and several other casualties via the helicopter. They climbed up to us on foot, putting themselves at risk, to help rescue us, which we are extremely thankful.
On the 1st October 2022, Samuel's wife and closest friends hope to complete the Mournes 7 Sevens one day challenge. Led by Wild Mountain NI, it is a 26km hike, summiting 7 peaks over 700m in the Mourne Mountain range with a total ascent of 2500m!
Those taking part are: Sophie Crawford, Lynsey Bannister, Stephen McVeigh, Gareth Murray, Matthew Bowden, Matthew Nelson, Reuben Daly and Conor Bannister.
While doing this strenuous challenge we hope to raise lots of money and exceed our fund raising target for the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team.
These guys are based in Fort William, Scotland. They are a voluntary organisation and they carry out over 100 mountain rescues each year, with the majority of the rescues taking place on Ben Nevis.
Thanks in advance for your kind donations it is much appreciated. We would also encourage you to take the time and listen to Samuel's testimony in the link below.
