Sooooo...
Some of you may remember some 15 years ago me growing my hair long and mostly looking like a bit of a stuffy sod well what you don’t know is I had an attack of alopecia areata. This is an autoimmune condition that causes the body’s immune system to attack hair follicles, leading to patchy hair loss. In my case the patches seemed to join together but luckily for me I could cover them with my long mop of hair. I gave this condition a name, Barry, to help me deal with it and have someone to blame.
Unfortunately for me, Barry is back and much like many a movie the sequel... is much worse !!!!!
Anyone who knows me well would agree my hair is very much part of my identity and I’m brave enough to admit seeing FRICKIN loads of it falling out for no reason is both upsetting and confident knocking. It’s on my mind constantly and literally in my face all the time be it falling on the table at dinner time or on my clothes.
I was lucky enough to have the support previously of friends who joined in on the Barry bashing some 15 years ago and today the added support of a phenomenal wife and son who has been amazing. Leo told me the other day not to worry about “the hole in my hair” as he put it “you still have me daddy” ❤️ How true he is....
So given the pep talk from my 5 year old, I don’t want this to continue getting me down, I want to own it and take action on my terms!
On Saturday night I’m shaving it all off ... the whole lot! Before I lose it all anyways. I want to make something good out of what is quite frankly a shit situation by doing it for charity. (Of course I realise there is a lot going on in the world and a lot worse stuff that some geezer losing his hair) but if I’m going to shave it off I thought I’d see if I could get £100 for charity.
I’m doing this for Mencap. They do great work with people who have learning disabilities including Down’s syndrome something close to my heart as my sister lives with this every day.
So should you wish to chuck a few quid in the pot here is the link and of course I’ll post the video up as soon as it’s done Saturday evening.
Thanks for reading all that 👍
