We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to stop women dying from breast cancer.

Story

On 20th June 2015, a team of 12 friends, including worker bees from Visualsoft, Geocore, Leader Online, Endeavour Partnership and other local lads, will be completing the mammoth challenge of cycling from the coast of Saltburn to Morecambe and then back again in just one day! The Coast 2 Coast 2 Coast (as we're calling it) will cover over 250 miles, with elevations of up to 1200 ft above sea level!

In doing so, we're aiming to raise £5,000 for the very worthy Breakthrough Breast Cancer campaign - a charity that's helped, and continued to support - family, friends and colleagues of those taking part in the cycling challenge who have been affected by breast cancer.

The 12 man team completing the challenge is made up of 12 friends all from Teesside.

Dean Benson - Visualsoft, David Duke - Visualsoft, Mark Leader  Leader Online, Adam Woodhead - Geocore, Mike Moore - Geocore, Duncan Jenkins - Kaefer Opus, Mark Brown - Estates Manager for Carillion at The James Cook University Hospital, Nik Tunley - Endeavour Partnership, John Manders - Middlesbrough Council, Simon Barnfather - TEWV NHS, Micky Gettings - Air Products and Tim Hodgson.

We have collectively decided on the Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer Research charity because so many of us have been touched by the disease. There's over 50,000 cases of breast cancer in the UK every year, and one of these in 2015 was Tim's wife Sarah. Here's Sarah's story...

"Hi my name is Sarah I live in the NE region of England. I have four children and two grandchildren, and around four years ago I was diagnosed with bowel cancer at a very young age for this type of cancer. Following surgery and chemotherapy I was thankfully deemed in remission. However last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer, again another primary cancer - so far I've had surgery twice six months chemotherapy and will need further surgery. I feel fortunate that I've been given the opportunity to see my children and grandchildren grow up, all of which would not have been possible without up to date research and evidenced based care. Therefore for me research is a fundamental process in the fight against cancer".
