Working to Prevent Child Exploitation during Covid19 Lockdown

Escapeline is continuing to work with young people and their families during this period of social distancing and lockdown. Many children are at greater risk whilst schools are closed as they are without their usual support systems and the safety of being in school.
In the past year since the charity was set up Escapeline has already identified a number of children who were unknowingly being groomed by county lines gangs and therefore has been able to support these children and their families and prevent further exploitation.
Due to Covid19, Escapeline is currently unable to carry out its vital work in the community and in particular the awareness workshops and training in schools and groups of professionals such as GP’s, support workers, and police. Therefore as well as the charity losing income, there are many children who are being exploited and don’t have the means to escape this current situation.
Child Exploitation has not stopped during the pandemic, and some parents are reporting their concern and devastation as their children ‘disappear’ from their homes during lockdown due to being targeted and exploited by county lines gangs.
