Story
On the 9th & 10th of June 2022, I shall be attempting to cycle
from London to Paris in just 24 hours 😳😬an event called the Duchenne Dash, for one very special little boy…Connor bear.
I’ve been in two minds about participating if I’m totally honest, trying to find the time to train, be away from Timmo and the kids, pay the best part of £500 entry fee and raise £4k has been playing on my mind. But then the sad reality of Duchenne is starting to show and I’m seeing it with my own eyes. Connor is now 10 years old and starting to deteriorate – something we always knew would happen but we lived in denial, not wanting to really think about what the future with Duchenne holds.
For those of you less familiar with Duchenne, here are the horrific headlines; it rips away all the motor skills learnt during your early years…the ability to walk, run, get up from the floor, talk, and the
unimaginable, of not being able to breathe unaided.
Connor often likes having sleepovers at our place, he has such an amazing friendship with his cousins and the amazing ability to interact with Joe, Amalie or Lottsie whatever they’re doing. Connor is funny, loud (VERY LOUD), determined and stubborn….all amazing traits when channelled in the right direction. And it’s when I see Connor no longer even attempting to climb our stairs, struggle to get up on the kitchen stool he could once manage, trying to stand when he’s fallen over playing footie makes me realise there really is no question about participating in the Dash this year. It seems even more fitting given this year is the 10th Dash and it's Connor’s 10th year!
I’m not going to lie, I’ve left my training and fundraising late. I’m feeling rather nervous about riding alongside some seasoned cyclists
who are super fit but I’m going to take some inspiration from Connor himself, I’m determined to do this, I’m rather stubborn when I want to be….I’m going to do this to help give Connor and boys like him the future he deserves.
🚴🏻 So here’s to getting out on the bike between now and the 9th & 10th June, I’ll be clocking up the mileage and raising some much need funds to help us on our mission to End Duchenne.
👉🏻If you’d like to help me reach my £4k target you can do so here.
Thank you so much for your support.
Together we shall End Duchenne.
