Story
In memory of our beloved brother, Matthew, we have decided to take part in the 2018 Edinburgh Half Marathon.
Along with some family and friends, we have have signed up the for 13.1 mile slog through the scenic streets and coastlines of the capital! The thought is already making us sweat!
The reason we are doing this is to raise money for a support service called Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS) . They exist to meet the needs and break the isolation experienced by those bereaved by suicide. They are a self-help organisation and aim to provide a safe, confidential environment in which bereaved people can share their experiences and feelings, giving and gaining support from each other. They also strive to improve public awareness and break down the stigma surrounding the subject of suicide. Although we as a family have only recently began using the service, we have found it to be incredibly helpful for us and would be privileged to help in any way we could towards it's continuation.
As most will already know, our brother Matthew took his own life at the on the 26th of February this year. The loss felt as a result of his suicide amongst his family and the many who knew him has been life changing. Matthew was only 27 years old, and although his decision has left us deeply saddened, we take some comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace and no longer suffering.
SOBS rely on the generosity of the public, charitable trusts and other organisations to fund their work. Any donations made, big or small, would go directly to the charity to set up additional meetings for individuals affected by suicide, as well as various administrative costs such as maintaining their helpline, providing booklets and raising public awareness. This truly is a fantastic service. Their website provides full information on how public funds help their work.
We would like to thank everyone in advance for their generosity and extend our most sincere best wishes to everyone who has shared the page and made a donation, of whatever amount.
See you at the finish line!
