Individuals and families in our region continue to fall into more complex patterns of poverty. This past year, record numbers came to us to find safe shelter and meet basic needs. Will you help us unwrap fresh starts for our neighbors in need.

Story

Before the pandemic, before she lost her job, before she could no longer afford her home, Aliyah enjoyed robust health, personal savings and the relief that comes from settling under the covers after a solid days work.  And, then, it was all gone.  Her place of work closed. After depleting her savings, sleep no longer came easily.  Her thoughts raced, and each morning was a little more distressing.   Although she received unemployment, it was not enough. Aliyah came to Catholic Charities for assistance to find more affordable housing.  With donor support, we helped her secure a safe apartment and paid her first month’s rent and deposit.  She continues to meet with us to make realistic goals for her future while she works a new job today.  For the first time in more than a year, she’s able to start saving again.  She’s also sleeping well. When she wakes, she’s grateful for gift of a fresh start.
