2019 Barclays Abseil for The Lord Mayor's Appeal · 5 July 2019 ·
Each year, I team up with the Lord Mayor of the City of London to abseil down one of the financial district's landmarks.
This year, we'll be hopping over the edge of the Barclays HQ in Canary Wharf, which is over 500ft high. The charities supported by the Lord Mayor's Appeal make a real difference to the lives of so many people. The charities include:
Place2Be
75% of mental health issues start in childhood. Place2Be have developed and will run a transformational mental health programme, helping children who suffer bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma. This will enable 180 schools in London to provide children with access to mental health and emotional support so they grow up with prospects not problems.
OnSide Youth Zones
OnSide Youth Zones will be a game changer for young Londoners by providing 21st century youth provision; offering them somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to through world class facilities and activities, ranging from sports to music and enterprise to mentoring services. They will help transform lives and communities through five state-of-the-art centres in areas of deprivation tackling mental health, crime and employability prospects. Three of these Youth Zones are opening in 2019.
Samaritans
Every day in the UK, 16 people die by suicide. The Samaritans have launched and are rolling out through companies Wellbeing in the City, a ground-breaking online programme, bringing Samaritans expertise into the workplace. It gives employees the skills they need to manage their emotional wellbeing, build resilience, and to listen and support those around them and thereby preventing people reaching crisis point. Together, we will transform lives and potentially save lives too. One life lost is one too many
