We thought we would take the opportunity of our wedding to raise some money for one of our favourite charities, Dogs for the Disabled.  A dog can really make a difference to someones life and a specially trained assistance dog can help give someone with a disability independence and make the world more accessible, as well as giving them unquestioning companionship.

These are just some of the range of tasks that an assistance dog trained by the charity will be able to help with:

• Open and close doors
• Help a person dress and undress
• Bark to raise the alarm in an emergency
• Retrieve items such as a telephones or dropped articles like keys or a bag
• Empty the washing machine
• Switch the lights on and off
• Bring in the milk and fetch the post
• Press a pedestrian crossing button
• Reach up to shop-counters and carry a shopping basket
• Help people to walk by providing a stable base and forward motion

If only we could train our dog to do some of these things!!!! We hope to raise enough money to buy a dog that can be trained and become an assistance dog - that would be a great wedding present!!!  A donation of any size will help with this!
