Chris is saddling up for the Tour de Alice

Tour de Alice · 30 September 2020 ·
Hi there, my name’s Chris and I’m hopping on my bike to take
part in the Tour de Alice and raise money for the incredible Alice Charity, who
help vulnerable families in crisis around the Stoke and Newcastle area. A
percentage of the total raised will also go to the Rotary Club, who fund local
lifelines like foodbank services and literature programmes in schools.
What am I in for?
So what exactly does the Tour de Alice entail? Taking place
alongside the historic Tour de France held between 29th August and 20th
September, Alice have challenged their supporters to saddle up and take their
bikes for a spin for a good cause over the three weeks.
The twist on my challenge is that I will be completing 10%
of each stage of the Tour de France every single day. And if you’re thinking
“10% doesn’t sound that bad”, that should add up to around 215 miles
altogether! So rain, shine, or wind-lashing tropical storm (you never know!)
I’ll be heading out on Saturday 29th August to kick off my Tour de Alice
challenge. I’d appreciate it if no one performs any rain dances in the next
three weeks!
Who is it for?
As for who the money is going to, I’ve known Steph Talbot,
who runs the Alice Charity, since early 2013 when I first started my business.
Over the years I’ve seen how Alice help families who are at absolute breaking
point, from offering immediate assistance with food and shelter, to helping
families access vital benefits.
I’ve been involved in my local Rotary Club for many years,
helping them to support their local food bank, facilitate in-school reading
programmes, and fulfil one-off requests like replacing the area’s outdated,
paramedic first-response vehicle. 20% of the final total will be going towards
upholding community projects like this.
Why the Tour de Alice?
Apart from raising the money to support these two incredibly
worthy charities, I wanted to do this challenge because I’ve always enjoyed
getting out on my bike - although usually, I’m up a mountain, in a forest or
somewhere in the middle of nowhere! It allows me to enjoy the outdoors and get
some exercises, which can sometimes be difficult to fit in with work and life.
But more importantly, I wanted to raise money for Alice with
this challenge to have a sense of pride; to do something worthwhile alongside
the people who are generous enough to support the cause and donate to this
page. Donations help provide such support for people in our community who are
going through a difficult time - and if we can help with that, we should!
Thank you so much for visiting this page, and if you can,
I’d really appreciate a donation in support of the Alice Charity. Look out for
my updates from the Tour de Alice frontline, and thank you again for your
support.
