HELLO please wing £10 to ELOP to motivate me to walk 250,000 steps, please?? I need to be held accountable for my silly actions, thank you.
If you don't know ELOP, they're a really special bunch – they provide "pay what you want" therapy to LGBTQ+ people, meaning thousands of queers can access safe, welcoming, affordable mental health care when they might otherwise not have been able to.
As we all know, LGBTQ+ people are disproportionately affected by poor mental health – discrimination, isolation, fear, a history of persecution, and the trauma of not living authentically for (many) years has inflicted deep wounds on members of our community. I don't know a single queer who hasn't been affected by anxiety or depression – and ELOP has been with us for 25 years, providing invaluable community and support.
They're a super small, specialist charity, run by queers for queers, and funding is tight as hell. But they've never been more necessary, and I'd love to see them around for another 25 years. Or until queers rule this stupid little island and therapy is free and government mandated <3
NB. 250,000 steps works out to approx. 8,000 a day – that may sound doable but yesterday I did 187 so it's gonna be a heckin stretch lads!!
