Story
Uganda has entered a strict lockdown as the country battles a third wave of COVID-19.
Communities are left without income, food, education and without support if they find themselves vulnerable to violence.
I’m intending to launch a children’s educational programme titled ‘ Boda –Boda Mobile Library’ – ‘Creating learning opportunities for disadvantaged children in Uganda.
“Boda-Boda Mobile Library,” conceptualised as a way to take books to various township areas. "When children cannot access a physical school for learning, we want to use a boda-boda to take school where children live.
The project is a critical response to the education crisis during the current Covid-19 lockdown.
The Library offers local children a chance to hear story telling, to do drama, to read books which they otherwise cannot access. Even school books are scarce in the townships and other books are not a feature in the homes. Older young people use the library for homework and for meetings and discussions. The community
have the opportunity to use it for information and support. Children would be able to read and write their own stories. If there are successful we will try and publish them as a small booklet - watch this space.......
My target is to raise £3000 for the pilot phase of the project.
Thanks for your generosity.
