2020 has been a frightening year in so many ways. Levels of violence against women, job and wage loss, the significant caring burden. These are just a few ways that COVID-19 has had a heavy impact on the world's women and girls.

I believe in the strength of women. I believe in the power of women's voices, and the importance of giving them equal opportunities so that they may fulfil their potential.

I am grateful to be surrounded by so many incredible and accomplished women in my life, who continue to strive to do their best even in the face of challenges like those thrown our way in 2020. Entrepreneurs, philanthropists and creatives, women who I admire and respect for living boldly, for being present, and for making themselves heard. Striving to achieve greatness, starting great conversations and making great change.

I've been extremely fortunate to have always had the freedom and opportunity to pursue and create - working harder and aiming higher, whatever I set my mind to, I strive to achieve. However, for a vast number of women in today's society, these opportunities are out of reach. Among the various crises gripping the world - from the pandemic, poverty, displacement and conflict - there also exists a widespread sociological divide at the heart of women's issues and gender equality.

While I have pushed for the empowerment of women in my personal projects, within the world I live - what it means to empower a frightfully large number of women globally, starts with food, water, health care, access to education, economic freedom and protection.

I want all women and girls, everywhere, to have equal opportunities to lead, to learn, to lead full lives, safe and strong, and free from discrimination. This is my wish for my daughter, and this is my wish for women and girls everywhere.

The opportunity to do something in my life that simply helps others find or regain the strength to continue theirs, is humbling.

In 2020, my birthday wish is to raise $50,000 to support the life changing work of UN Women, which is now more important than ever before - giving women and girls the opportunity to thrive, lead and to live free from the fear of violence.
