Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Never in a million years did I think I would be diagnosed with breast cancer, and never in a million years did I think I would run 13.1 miles – a half marathon! I only started running 2 years ago, and at the time, I thought that the idea of running a 5k race was out of reach for me. Since then, I’ve run a couple of 10k races and this year I’ve built up the distance, aiming for a half marathon. This is a really big deal for me.
The day that I run the North Lincs Half Marathon – 15th May 2016 - will be the 21st anniversary of the date I had my breast cancer op. I’m fit and well now, but sadly not all of those diagnosed are so fortunate. Indeed, I lost a much younger friend to breast cancer earlier this year.
To give extra purpose to my half marathon, I would like to raise as much money as possible for the Pink Rose Suite, which is the breast care unit at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby. Having received such excellent care from them myself, from diagnosis, surgery, treatment and aftercare, through to discharge, I feel that this is my way of giving something back.
I am running in memory of those who have lost their battle with cancer, in celebration of those who have survived and in support of those fighting their own battles right now.
I hope you will donate whatever you can to this excellent cause.
Thank you in advance for your generosity – I won’t let you down.
