Charlies RideLondon 100 for Alzhiemers Society

Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 2018 · 29 July 2018 ·
Without change, statistically 272 of my Facebook friends will die from dementia or Alzhiemers disease.
This equates to 15.3% of deaths for females and 8.0% of males (ONS, 2015). For women the death rate is greater than the top four cancers combined.
I hope you find this a tough pill to swallow 💊 as there is currently no cure for the disease.
Alzhiemer’s disease, the most popular form of dementia typically starts at the hippocampus, making it difficult to make new memories. Gradually as the disease progresses it destroys longer term memories, communication and cognition also become more and more impaired.
We all use social media to store and communicate memories formed when meeting friends, travelling the world and following our dreams. If an error in these platforms systematically deleted the most recent photos and prevented you uploading more, it would be intensely researched until a resolution was found.
Similarly we have to recognise that Alzheimer’s is not part of the natural aging process and a cure is required prevent more loved ones becoming victims.
Please tag the following error image or share this post to raise awareness for this progressive disease and help fund further research into treatments, cure and support with the Alzhiemers Society.
I am riding in the Prudential RideLondon (29th July), which is a 100 mile cycle route from the Olympic Park, through to the Surrey hills and finishing outside Buckingham Palace to increase awareness and support for Alzhiemers Society. Any support or donations for this venture will be deeply appreciated.
With Love,
Charlie
