Story
The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is my chosen charity for fundraising. MMD is a rapidly progressive fatal illness. It leaves people unable to walk, talk, or feed themselves, but intellect it rarely affects. With no cure or treatment, half die with 14 months of diagnosis.
I first became aware of the disease when I found out that a friend of mine, Ali Hochstetter's Mother had died of MND.
Below is a short message from Ali Hochstetter:
“MND is such a heartbreaking disease; my mother was diagnosed in 2012 and unfortunately lost her battle a few months ago. We had very little knowledge about MND and were not prepared for the outcome. Mum lost her voice first which was heartbreaking to see, she had so much she wanted to say yet it was so difficult to get it all out, even on her Samsung tablet it was a strain for her. She lost a lot of weight, couldn’t eat and was eventually fed by a peg tube through her stomach. It was devastating to see her decline so rapidly, losing all of her independence, and unable to enjoy the simplest things in life that she had only a few months before. What she never lost, was her smile, sense of humour and her enjoyment of her grandchildren’s company. She showed true strength and inspiration against this horrible disease with thumbs up to say everything was ok until the very end.”
I wanted to show my support and friendship towards Ali and her family by helping raise money for the MND association to help increase awareness and prolong life for others, and help support the families and careers of people with MND.
I intend to bike as far around the world as possible promoting the MND association and all the good work that they do. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause and help make a difference to the many thousands of people it affects please "just give" above.
Thank you very much.
