Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in memory of my parents, Theo & Charmaine. I lost my mom in early 2020 and my Dad passed away just before Christmas 2023.
I am also running to prove to myself that my life isn't over, and that I know my parents would be so proud of me for pushing through.
According to the UK Bereavement Commission, 1 in 7 people will lose a parent by the age of 30, and 39% of bereaved people reported difficulties in getting support from friends or family.
Experiencing grief at any age is hard, and we all know we will lose our parents at some point in our lives, but losing a parent as a young adult comes with so much unexpected loss. You are grieving a future you will never have with them, grieving for your parents who will never be grandparents and your future kids who will never meet their grandparents. Grieving the loss of having mentors to confide in, and the unconditional love that only parents can give.
That is why I am raising money for It's Time, they are trying to make the world an easier place for young people who have lost one, or both, parents. In my eyes, and from personal experience, this is an overlooked demographic of people.
