About 2,800 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in the UK each year. Overall, 2 out of every 100 cancers diagnosed in women are cervical cancers. But it is the most common cancer in women under 35 years old. 

About 4.1 million women are invited for cervical screening each year in England and about 24,000 have a severely abnormal cervical screening result. Early treatment can prevent those cervical changes developing into cancer.

 In 2008 I attended a routine screening and unfortunately i was one of the unlucky ones that showed a severely abnormal cervical screening result .  My results showed Carcinoma in Sita (CIS) more commanly known as CIN 3 Pre-Cancerous cells.  I was treated within a couple of weeks for this with a procedure called a Loop Diathermy and everything went well. A very good friend of mine has recently gone through the same procedure and all is looking good for both of us i'm glad to say.

Please girls don't forget to attend the routine screenings, they could save your life! It takes five minutes once you are in there and nurses are caring and understanding to people who are worried about the screening and also professional.  Please make sure your mothers, aunty's, sister's and granny's go for them as well!
