Story
I have stage 4 low grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC), this is a rare and under-researched disease. It affects young women and is resistant to standard treatment i.e chemotherapy, I am currently receiving hormone treatment, however even with this current treatment the life expectancy is 10 years.
I was diagnosed when I was 42 in July 2021, I have an 11 year old son and a 5 year old daughter, and an amazing husband that I need to fight this disease for. Having researched LGSOC since diagnosis, the lack of funding for research is very frustrating, however Prof Charlie Gourley in the Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre is doing amazing work, it’s a great comfort to know him and his team are actively researching this disease as I may need to call on them in the future. At the University of Edinburgh, they are screening panels of new drugs in the laboratory in order to identify those most likely to be beneficial for low grade serous ovarian cancer. By donating to this research you are helping to improve my life expectancy.
