Story

Firstly a big thank you for visiting my JustGiving page and helping to share the message. You are already helping to create the change we want to see by sharing the message, so thanks.

Hello! My name is Cathy Mitchell and I am taking part in a World First Expedition in February 2015 with Ice Warrior renowned explorer; Jim McNeill and his team of 28, to reach the Northern Pole of Inaccessibility, skiing approximately 200 miles in 1 of 4 legs where we'll cover over 800 miles in total. I will be doing this as my first expedition and extreme sponsored ski across the very centre of the Arctic Ocean, passing through the Magnetic North Pole on our way in aid of a Manx mental health charity, Service Users' Network (SUN).

Being a supporter of SUN for a number years and seeking a challenge, I was initially drawn to this to pursue my dreams and push my mental and physical barriers to the max following the inspiration of my brother; I also realised what a great opportunity to raise awareness and funds for some great charities.

CLASP Charity is another cause close to my heart as my own brother suffered from mental health issues, and sadly took his own life at the age of 37 . My brother had many exciting and adventurous achievements in his youth, many I was always envious of but never had the courage to do. It seems in my late 20's/30's I realise I've inherited his sense of adventure!

This expedition is going to be mentally and physically gruelling, and I am training hard to prepare for the most exciting and the hardest challenge of my life.

Right now I am requesting your support to make the expedition happen and raise awareness my supporting the CLASP . Please show your support by sponsoring me; together we really can make a difference :)

CLASP's aim and mission is to confront the stigma surrounding mental and stress related illnesses, daily emotional trauma and suicide via events such as the ‘WALKING OUT OF DARKNESS’ charity walk and the CLASP Helpline starting in 2014, which will offer those suffering, their family, friends, work colleagues, carers and the public in general; a proactive advice and support service whilst informing callers of local services, charities and organisations able to help with their needs.
