Fundraising for Action on Pre-Eclampsia
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
UPDATE: I finished the London Marathon in 6.20 despite sustaining an IT band injury 5 miles into the race, and completed the remaining 21 miles with my leg strapped up. Three weeks later I took part in the Halstead Marathon in 5.34 and on Sunday 27th May completed the Edinburgh Marathon in 5.29 - still with an injury but a much better time. My aim next year is to run a marathon in under 5.15 so fingers crossed I dont suffer any more injuries!! Thank you to all who sponsored me. x
I have decided this year to take on the challenge of running not only one marathon - but two! I have only been running since the end of August 2011 so I know this is going to be a huge challenge but when you see the reason I am running it you will understand why.
I will be running the London Marathon on 22nd April and also the Edinburgh Marathon on the 27 May - 2 Marathons in the space of just over 1 month – I know – I’m mad but those of you who know me already know that! ...... but please read on.
I will be running for APEC or ‘Action on Pre Eclampsia’. I have been very lucky and have given birth to 8 very healthy children, however not all women are this lucky and although I have not suffered from Pre Eclampsia myself, I did have life threatening complications with the birth of my last daughter so I would like to use the opportunity of running in the London Marathon to raise money for this charity.
Pre-eclampsia is a disease of pregnancy which affects up to 70,000 women in the UK every year. Tragically it also leads to the death of 7 mothers and 1,000 babies annually. Pre-eclampsia is not preventable and cannot be cured, only carefully managed. The progress of the disease is only stopped when the baby is delivered which sometimes has to be done very early in the pregnancy to save the life of the mother. Sadly this can result in the death of the baby.
Action on Pre-eclampsia aims to raise awareness of the disease amongst the public and professionals so that signs and symptoms can be recognised early.
So -I have set myself three goals;
1. Raise a MINIMUM of £250 and run both the London and Edinburgh Marathons
2. Raise £750 and run London in Fancy Dress
3. Raise £1000 and run BOTH London and Edinburgh in fancy dress
If you feel you would be able to sponsor me even only a few pounds, every little will help towards my fundraising target, and raise much needed funds for this wonderful charity. I have started a blog: http://www.realbuzz.com/blogs/u/CarolGoodwin/i-thought-i-couldnt-run-to-the-end-of-the-road/posts/this-is-how-it-all-began/ you can follow my training highs and lows.
Please please help me to reach my fundraising targets and I promise the fancy dress will be worth it J
