Story
Carmelau was living with his family in Haiti, but he had to flee because of religious persecution. He set out on that hard and dangerous route across continents, coming to Britain to seek asylum. He was given temporary leave to remain, and was ready to take up any opportunities. But Covid hit, and he realised that the stories he was told about finding prosperity in Europe were false. He was isolated, barely surviving. Then he got news that his grandmother in Ghana had died, and left her small cocoa farm to his parents in Haiti. They need him to join them in Ghana, to create a fairtrade business, giving local employment. He is desperate to go. He needs our help to raise the funds for the journey – the air ticket, transport links, visa, Covid tests. He also wants to set up a charity to tell young people the truth from his own experience about being a refugee in Europe. Will you help?
