Story

Staff at Cockermouth School are planning to raise money for Hospice at Home and the Eden Valley Hospice in memory of our friend and colleague, Jill, by setting ourselves, the challenge of climbing all of the  214 Lake District Wainwrights between us over the summer term.

Jill sadly passed away last Autumn after battling against cancer for a long time. She was an incredibly warm and kind individual who always made time for her colleagues at Cockermouth School and to many of us she was a close and loyal friend. As the mum of Sam and Matthew, she was also very involved in the life of the school as a parent.

Jill’s husband, Andy, has chosen these two charities because of the fantastic support they not only gave Jill and her family in the final months of her life but it was Hospice at Home “West Cumbria” that Jill used to attend on a weekly basis, as long as she was able. As her friends and colleagues we hope to now support both of these charities just as they supported Jill, and Jill supported us all.

The challenge is an epic one but one we are determined to conquer and, as Jill loved purple, on every walk we do we will wear or carry something purple!!
