Story
From the 23rd - 30th May I'm joining a team of crazy adventurers from Cambridge & District Youth for Christ to try and climb Everest, Mont Blanc and Kilimanjaro (nearly 20,000 metres). Most are ‘climbing’ in the confines of their own homes! I’ll be climbing the ‘Stairs’ that are such a feature in Newcastle upon Tyne (Merchant Stairs, Long Stairs, Castle Stairs and so on).
I’m doing this because I have a family connection with Cambridge YFC; because I work for NE Youth and see how much support young people need in these times; and because as a young person I found following Jesus made sense of the journey.
YFC works with local churches, looks toward long-term discipleship, and has a commitment to social involvement. Sounds okay! I hope you’ll join me in helping Cambridge YFC to keep on putting the miles in!
The 'stairs' I'm climbing are from Close Gate up by the line of the town wall to Whitefriars Place, Tuthill Stairs, Merchant Stairs, Long Stairs, Castle Strairs, Battery Stairs, Dog Leap Stairs, the stairs at Low Bridge either side of Dean Street, from King Street up to Dog Bank, up to Dog Bank from Plummer Chare, up to Dog Bank from Broad Garth, Silver Street, and Croft Stairs. Doing them all twice is at least 200m of ascent!
And you'll get a historical snippet of info each day with a picture.
