Donations in memory of Dorothea will be given to the Oxford Kidney Unit Trust Fund who will forward the funds to their satellite unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury.

Dorothea first came into contact with the Oxford Kidney Unit about 20 years ago when she was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease.  She was regularly seen by their consultants and renal dieticians to try and delay the worsening of her kidney function. 

However, sadly, after her car crash 3 1/2 years ago, the ensuing trauma and medical treatment caused Dorothea's kidneys to finally fail and she then required haemodialysis to stay alive.  For the first 6 months of her dialysis treatment, Dorothea had to travel 3 times a week to the dialysis unit at The Churchill, Oxford, however, once she reached the top of the waiting list at the Stoke Mandeville Renal Unit, she was able to move her dialysis treatment there (which was significantly closer to her nursing home).

Dorothea spent thousands of hours at the Stoke Mandeville Renal Unit during the course of her thrice weekly haemodialysis sessions.  The unit is a beacon of hope, and manages to create a warm and welcoming family atmosphere between the staff and patients.  Dorothea only ever had good words to say about the ambulance drivers, the unit receptionists, the healthcare assistants, dieticians, nurses, and the doctors - she was certainly well looked after, and was always so grateful for the wonderful care she received.

Any donations given will help to improve dialysis patients' lives and further the life-sustaining treatment carried out at the Stoke Mandeville Renal Unit by the kind and dedicated doctors, nurses, and wider renal team as a whole.

Stoke Mandeville Renal Unit is a satellite unit of the Oxford Kidney Unit and provides an outpatient service of haemodialysis and renal clinics for patients in Aylesbury and the surrounding Buckinghamshire area. By donating to the Oxford Kidney Unit Trust Fund, the donations raised in Dorothea's name will be channelled directly to the satellite unit at Stoke Mandeville.
