Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This Easter I will be going to Nepal taking part in a project for Mondo Foundation, a charity that focuses on improving the quality of education and livelihoods of girls in developing countries.
After the devastating April 2015 earthquake in Nepal, along with a few other students from Loughborough University, I will be helping to re-build a school and a girl’s hostel. Your donation will go straight to the resources and labour desperately required to not only build new classrooms, but also build a child’s future.
Despite our efforts to improve the quality of education inthe region, about 60% of girls leave school after completing primary levelbecause they do not have easy access to secondary school. For many of thestudents in the region, the nearest secondary school is 2 hours walk away. The first step in encouraging girls to stayin education is to ensure that all have safe access to a school. We aim to do this by providing hostels for them to stay in while at school. This means theyhave somewhere safe where they can stay, close to the school, thus preventingthe need for students to walk the great distances that have been required inthe past.
Without education, girls are vulnerable to being married offat a very young age or being forced to search for work abroad. This can lead toyoung girls being trafficked to India to work in brothels. We believe thateducating local girls empowers them and helps protect them from becomingvictims of trafficking or early marriage. In turn, we hope that educated girlswill push for change within their own communities and address historical issuessuch as gender inequality.
Anything you donate is contributing to changing a girl’slife, so I implore you to help me raise my target.
You can also donate by texting NEPA47 along with an amountof £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070
