Story
After the dismal wet weather at the beginning of the year, followed by isolation for me, and then lockdown for everyone, my allotment looked sad, overgrown with weeds and in need of too much of a challenge to start growing anything, and I was going to give it up. I needed something to give me determination to get it growing veg and fruit, instead of grass and weeds and thought if I can get donations in support of my efforts (it really is hard work!), I can help Minstead Trust through these very challenging times.
So with my lovely, silly dog for company, this is what we hope to do! CJ is a 'getting on a bit' girl Staffie who still has moments of playful madness chasing her tail, but since having two huge operations to remove nasty tumours she has slowed down considerably and now suffers with colitis which often makes her quite groggy. For her part, CJ is going to walk the 2 miles to/from the allotment with me, to the equivalent of a 26 mile marathon! It will take time, as we will only walk on her good days with rest days between! My part, is a great deal of clearing, weeding and digging (wish me luck) to turn an unsightly unproductive space back to a perfect plentiful plot by the end of the summer - slowly but surely is the only way I usually manage, and I have my work cut out now! There will be photos and info as we go, so please do follow our progress. Hopefully my efforts will result in a successful season and a bumper harvest so that I can share my yummy fresh veg and fruit goodies with you!
For now please, please give whatever you can to encourage CJ and me, and support the fabulous Minstead Trust.
I am of course, keeping to strict social distancing rules along with my fellow allotmenteers whilst carrying out this challenge.
