Child and Adolescent East of England Rheumatology Service (CHEERS) sponsored cycle ride from Norwich to Cambridge · 16 September 2018

We support Addenbrooke's and the Rosie to change patients' lives.

Story

One in a thousand children and young people are living with a condition called Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) and a number of others have rare inflammatory rheumatological conditions including Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and vasculitis.  These conditions require specialist care, specific medications and a multidisciplinary team approach.

In November 2017 a nationally recognised regional paediatric rheumatology service was formally launched in the East of England based at Addenbrookes Hospital with a second service hub at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.  The Child and Adolescent East of England Rheumatology Service (CHEERS) includes doctors, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a pharmacist, research team, psychologists and support staff.

We are passionate about improving the care for young people with these conditions, especially across our large geographical region, and are always striving to develop the services we offer.  We have therefore decided to complete a 75 mile cycle ride between the two hub centres from Norwich to Cambridge to raise money for this new service.

The money raised will help to develop the whole service but specifically it will allow us to fund a yearly adolescent independence break, early years play sessions for families, a yearly family fun day, our parent group, new medical equipment and assist professional development of team members.

Any support you can give us will be gratefully received.
