Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We are walking to raise money for Action for A-T.
Action for A-T was set up by Toby and Emily Read 5 years ago when their daughter Evie, a school friend of Ella's, was diagnosed with Ataxia Telangiectasia (A-T), a devastating and little known neurodegenerative condition. They have been tireless in their efforts to raise funds for the charity and so, having supported Action for A-T from the comfort of the sofa for the past 5 years, or as a support driver for other event participants, I decided that this year I should take on a challenge myself.
A few weeks later, after a glass (or two!) of wine, Debbie agreed to join me for the Cotswold Way 100. Oh my goodness, just what have we let ourselves in for?!
With the rest of the Action for A-T team we will be walking from central Bath to Cheltenham, following 100km of the Cotswold Way (at one point almost passing our own back gardens) with no overnight stop. For the uninitiated, it is quite hilly and at night will be quite unforgiving! Our poor feet, legs, backs..................
So why put ourselves through this? Quite simply, to give hope. Action for A-T is an amazing charity raising much needed funds to advance medical understanding of A-T and through that to enable children who suffer with A-T to live a longer and healthier life. But mainly it is about giving those children, and their families, hope that one day there will be a cure for this debilitating condition. We will be in pain after this event, but that will be short-lived. Families with A-T in their lives have to endure so much more. Please visit the Action for A-T website at www.actionforAT.org for more information.
So as we dust off (or purchase) our walking boots and kit, and think about doing some sort of training before July, please do give generously to this worthwhile cause. It will be fantastic motivation for us!
Thank you
Anya and Debbie
