Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In late 2020 I decided to build a bridge to an island in our front pond. I felt I needed a lockdown challenge and so with a Canadian design, 500 metres of treated Douglas Fir, and help from Simon & Vanessa Morgan, we spent 6 months building a 3-arch bridge, spanning 50 feet.
In early 2021 I discovered I have a brain aneurysm and will need an operation at some point soon. A bit of a shock, but undeterred the bridge was completed in July… and is still standing!
We would like to share the opening of the bridge with family and friends on 12 September 2021, from 2pm and in doing so remember friends (Amanda Sanders, Robin Harrhy, Neil Thornalley) and Simon’s Mum, Angela who all passed away in the recent past with brain-related illnesses. We also ask you to join with us in supporting our friends Gary and Rhiana whose lovely, 10 month old son, Rory, is bravely fighting a brain tumour.
The 12th September will be a celebration of lives well-lived and the completion of a bridge, which whilst not as grand as the Millennium bridge, shares some characteristics and is nevertheless a small feat of engineering.
Zoom tickets £5 each.. we will send you a link (provided you are not anonymous)
Ticket to be there at 2pm on 12th September...£10 or whatever you feel you can give.
'Cut the Ribbon' ticket... £50
There will be a glass of fizz for you on the day and an opportunity to meet friends and neighbours and take loads of photos!
Many thanks to all those who have contributed during the build and all of you for giving so generously to The Brain charity.
At the moment we have 24 Canadian geese that have booked tickets and appear to be camped well ahead of the event! I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully seeing you on 12th September
