In November 2022 I am traveling to South Africa to support the charity Mellon Educate on a week long "Building Blitz ''. I will be helping to build class rooms and other school facilities in Cape Town

Each year Mellon Educate takes a working party to Africa, to build schools and facilities in the poorest areas.  These projects provide children and their teachers with education facilities, often for the first time in their lives. This year they aim to build a whole school in 7 days.

The aim is to change the lives of as many school children and their families as possible. The 2022 Building Blitz is how we'll contribute. For one week in November, I will leave my family and my “comfort zone” and travel to South Africa to join other volunteers.

Mellon Educate builds schools but the help doesn't end there. A team of professional educators and administrators follow the build into the school and raise the standard of teaching so that children succeed to an international standard for their age group. This is a sustainable education that will change lives.

These projects are closer to my heart than one might think, my godmother Aunt Rosanna (I named my daughter after her) lived and worked in South Africa most of her life, helping the community be a better place and I am wanting to do this project in her memory.
