Story
So here I go again... another crazy idea BUT for a great cause! Last year I was watching Dermot O'Leary doing his 24 hour Dance-Athon and I thought to myself 'if he can do that then I can plant pots for 24 hours!'
Well that was the thought and I'm about to find out if I can manage the inaugural 24hour Plant-Athon. I'm starting at 4pm on Thursday 17th March and planning on planting pots, tubs, troughs, hanging baskets, old wellie boots... in fact absolutely anything and everything right through until 4pm on Friday 18th March - Garden Re-Leaf Day 2016. The Plant-Athon is taking place at Studley Garden Centre, near Redditch. Every pot that I plant will then be sold through our centres and each one sold will raise a further £1 for Greenfingers. Come along and join in the fun on the 17th/18th.
HELP me smash my target - I want to raise at least £1 for every
minute that I'm planting. Over 24 hours that means my target is £1,440.
Can you sponsor me for 15, 30 or maybe a whole 60minutes? Whatever you can spare is great as every penny really does make a difference.
Garden Re-Leaf Day - what's that? Back in 2011 I was watching Comic Relief (bet you think that all I do is watch TV!) when the idea came to me that the garden industry could have its own annual fundraising day. A few cups of tea later with some industry friends and Garden Re-Leaf Day was born. As an event it has really taken off and garden centres, growers and manufacturers all over the country have taken part. The one and only Alan Titchmarsh launched the event for us back in 2011 and many other celebrities have joined in since then.... Stephen Fry, John Cleese, David Tennant, Jude Law, Danny Dyer, Patsy Palmer and Naomie Harris to name just a few.
So far we have raised just under £300,000 for the Greenfingers Charity. Greenfingers is a national charity dedicated to supporting the
children who use hospices around the UK, along with their families, by creating inspiring gardens for them to relax in and enjoy.
