Thank you for visiting our Black Mambas Anti-poaching Unit donation page.

The Mambas are a phenomenal team dedicating their lives to countering International Wildlife crime, and stop poaching in Balule Reserve and the Greater Kruger region.

The Mambas were the world’s first female anti-poaching unit and are 100% funded by donations -

THANK YOU in advance for your support !

We couldn’t do this work without you!

Background on the Black Mambas Anti-Poaching Unit:

The Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit (APU) was founded in 2012 by Transfrontier Africa and was created to protect Olifants West Nature Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park.

Launched with an initial team of 6 women from local communities, today the Black Mambas have grown to 36 rangers who cover an extended area of Balule.

The Black Mambas are a team of phenomenal, driven women who are striving to protect the wildlife of South Africa.

They do this through daily patrolling, education of the local community and developing global understanding through speaking at events across globe.

As the responsibilities of the Mambas has increased in recent years, it has become necessary to deploy a team that focuses solely on crime prevention, allowing the Black Mambas APU to focus on, and continue with their disruptive patrols. This team was created in 2022 and is called the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU).

The Black Mamba Crime Prevention Team focus on the following:-

- Search-and-destroy poachers snares, traps and camps

.- Conduct roaming and routine vehicle stop-and-searches

.- Conduct frequent inspections and searches of contractors building sites and camps.

- Regular visits to unsupervised staff quarters in remote areas.

- Take responsibility for remote camera-traps and other early-warning technology.

- Keep data-bases up-to-date on all of the above.

.- Hold frequent observation and information-gathering posts in hot-spots and on suspicious activities.

The recent spike in pangolin poaching and crocodile poaching has raised alarms, and so will ge a focus too.

Their work is 100% supported by donations - from the vehicles, food, clothing, training and day to day running costs - so every penny counts.

All funds raised will go towards supporting the Mambas as they grow and develop their capability to combat the current and emerging threats.

Thank you for your support!
