Story

On 25th January, I lost my Grandad George.

He had been unwell for some time (to be frank, he was never a well man) and had spent the last year or so in a home being fed through a peg in his stomach. This took away his ability to eat or drink anything through his mouth and also cause severe dehydration and discomfort. This was due to his developing Parkinson's several years ago and any swallowing motion in his throat caused him to choke and his esophagus to spasm. Parkinson's is still considered a very misunderstood and underfunded cause. Progress in the development of a cure is slow - there have been no major breakthroughs in developments or advancements in treating the condition for over a decade. Parkinson's UK is the nation's most prevalent research charity searching for a cure and treatments to combat the disorder.

Tasha and I have booked ourselves to take part in the Bristol Rough Runner course which takes place at Ashton Court in June. Initially we planned to do it as a bit of fun (and an excuse for use to get fit in time for the summer!) but after the passing of Grandad George, we thought it might be nice to not only run in his honour, but to set up a fundraiser for the event.

So, if you'd like to encourage these two sofa spuds to get off their behinds and will the Jog Squad (our team name and a nifty 90s wrestling reference - don't tell Tash!) on to the finish line, give what you can.

Cheers,

Billy

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.
