Story
Gavin always had an obsession with Everest. He'd read every book he could get his hands on and loved watching TV documentaries about this mighty mountain. To trek to Everest basecamp had always been on his bucket list and he even came so close to going himself. Gavin had always joked, even before his cancer diagnosis, that he wanted to have his ashes scattered at Everest to which I had responded "No way Gav". So after fate intervened on the day we scattered Gavin's ashes, I have ended up joining a team who are going to trek to EBC in April. I know that Gavin will be cheering us on, whilst also laughing his butt off at me taking on this crazy challenge, because he would be well aware of how far out of my comfort zone this will be.
A couple of us have decided to use this mad opportunity to fundraise for Haven's Hospice who have provided such amazing support for my family. Both girls have received such brilliant support during Gavin's illness, and continue to do so even now. They also helped me to look after Gavin during his palliative care and by doing so they allowed me to be his wife again and not just his carer. This support is something that I will be forever grateful for and the main reason that I want to fundraise for Havens. The support Havens provides to families is invaluable and I want to help them continue to do this for many, many years to come.
The funds we raise will be going towards their new hospice building which will provide care and support for so many other families who will be going through what we did.
Our team would be so very grateful if you would be kind enough to sponsor us and we will also be uploading photos during our trek. You can also follow my instagram page ebc_trekkingmumma for updates on my training and the trip itself.
Thank you, Love Beth xx
