Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Carl, the girls and I are heading to Tanzania for 10 days volunteering at Easter. We are self funding our trip, but would like to raise some money for the charity for the important work they do helping the local people become self sufficient. Go Make a Difference in Tanzania (Go MAD) are registered with Benevity for anyone who has fund matching via their employer. Any donations would be gratefully received.
Go Make a Difference have built about 250 water tanks. Each one saves on average 2 children's lives who would otherwise have died of diarrhoea from drinking dirty water.
Many women die in childbirth in Tanzanian villages because they have no clinic in their village. Go Make a Difference have just built a state of the art clinic for 15,000 people who live15 km from the nearest medical facility.
Only 1.9% of girls make it through secondary education in Tanzania. This is because they have to collect water for their families and many don't have sanitary pads or enough toilets to change in so they usually have to stay at home during their periods.
Testing and treatment for malaria costs just £5
£350 builds a goat shed
£650 builds a water tank
On our volunteering trip we will work in the town of Musoma and will be serving rural villages for 10 days, during which we will be involved in:
Constructing small building projects such as Ferro-cement water tanks, pit latrine toilets, goat sheds and other building projects for communities
Teaching basic health education and sanitation to schools and village members
Delivering first aid, do weekly hospital runs, care for the sick and get involved in community health awareness days.
Helping in a local orphanage
Helping to run various education initiatives supporting underachieving pupils
Assisting at Go MAD’s irrigation project which helps farmers in the rural villages
