Benington Bows History.

A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine Mike Coxshall, a self employed Carpenter from Benington, Herts, was wondering what he could do to help with the fight against Covid-19. He came up with the idea.

He decided to make some bows out of MDF and sell them around the village at £10.00 each for charity. He was helped at this stage by Ray Holman who posted on the Benington Facebook page and they took
off.

I saw them and asked to buy one. After talking to Mike I posted them on The Stevenage Forum on Facebook. I asked if anyone had spare capacity on a CNC machine to make them quicker.

Enter Gary Holland of New Holland Sheet Metal in Letchworth, a golf partner of Mike and mine, who said he could make them.

We then had a meeting, socially distanced of course, with another friend Dan Grist of Alroy Microwave in Stevenage to devise a plan.

We decided to extend our range and sell Small Bows at £5.00 and Hearts at £2.00 each.

Since then we have been helped with making them by Benchmark Fabrications and painted by Finishing Matters, both Letchworth companies, with paint supplied by A.R.Davies of Baldock.

At the moment they are available from a number of addresses in Benington and Stevenage and Budgens Shop in Walkern,  Also
available from Pearces Farm Shop, A10, Hamels Mead, Buntingford SG9 9ND.

  We would like further outlets to limit distance people need to travel to obtain one.

We have now approached The East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals' Charity based at Lister Hospital to organise a Just Giving Page for us to collect contributions with the funds raised being donated to the East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals' Charity Here for Each Other Campaign, to support local NHS staff during COVID-19.
