Story
Over 19 years ago, at the age of 26, Belinda contracted a virus on her spinal cord which left her paralysed with limited use of her arms and hands. Since then she has suffered steady deterioration, and has been bedbound for the last 4½ years. Belinda was diagnosed with a debilitating degenerative neuro-inflammatory disorder called neuromyelitis optica (NMO) It is a daily struggle of numerous physical impairments, together with relentless, excruciating pain.
Nevertheless, she tackles life with a consistently positive attitude and a remarkable ability to always see the bright side. This, together with her extraordinarily enthusiastic and philosophical outlook on life, is a true inspiration to all those who know and love her.
Some time ago, Belinda’s friends set up a fund facilitated by GIFT, to help pay for essential therapies, equipment, transport and other necessary expenses that are aren't otherwise funded. She is also greatly motivated to bring exposure to NMO, and to help further reasurch into possible treatments for the future. The costs can run into thousands per year, which necessitates continuous collection of funds.
Any donation, whether large or small, will be greatly appreciated, and will make a HUGE difference to Belinda’s life and the lives of others with her condition. All money donated here will go directly into Belinda's fund.
Help Belinda to raise even more money through Gift Aid. This allows GIFT to claim back tax on your donations. For every £1 you give, the Government will add an extra 25p - it won’t cost you anything. If you’re a UK tax payer, just tick the Gift Aid box before you complete your transaction.
