Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So its that time of year again where my parents go all out in decorating their house for Christmas, raising money for Marie Curie Mount Vernon. A charity that is very close to home for us as I know it is for many of you too. Without them my Dad wouldn’t be here!

He spent 12yrs in remission and was finally given the all clear last year!! So it only seems fair that all the money raised from doing the lights go to them.

The lights are my Mum’s baby and it’s her that keeps them going year after year with my Dad normally taking the credit. It all started as a bit of fun 24yrs ago and then as the years went on the bigger they got and so they started collecting for different local charities until they started collecting for Marie Curie Mount Vernon after my Dad finished his treatment.

The amount of effort that goes into the lights really does go unnoticed and my Mum spends hours upon hours re-wiring, relighting, changing bulbs etc. week after week, month after month. It really is an all year round job. She makes sure that each year there are a few new ones and this year has added even more than usual and there are a few more members to the snowman clan.

It takes nearly a month to get the lights set up and ready for switch on, usually it is my Mum and a family friend Colin being the ones to do this with occasional help from my Dad but this year my Dad did actually help out a lot more. Although as always it was Mum who climbed the ladder and dressed the roof and chimney, the same as it is every year.

My Mum gets great satisfaction from seeing the joy her lights bring to so many people all over St Albans especially the children year after year! It really does make all the hard work and without a doubt the dedication all worth it.

Please help them raise as much money as possible and donate whatever you can. Even if only a pound as they they say every penny counts!

I started doing a just giving page a couple of years ago as many people come to see the lights but not all get out so don’t all have the opportunity to put anything in charity box which is located on the right hand side of the drive, on the edge of the path. I also thought it was a great way to tell the story behind the lights too as not many knew it before.

Please all feel free to share this page if you can.

And I hope you all manage to get down see it them at some point over the next couple of weeks as this years new ones really are lovely and the house as a whole is more than worth it! I know no one will be disappointed!

Merry Christmas Everyone and Thank you all in advance!

The lights will be on from 4pm - 11pm, Last day being New Years Day
