Becky Carol Swift's Stirling Scottish Marathon 2017 page

The first time I met Margaret, my fiancé's mum, I instantly felt really comfortable in her company as we chatted away. She was a lovely, good natured & caring person. Someone that was very easy to talk to, always seemed positive, gave calm & wise advice and loved to enjoy life with family & friends.
Margaret was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 and had to have a lumpectomy followed by chemotherapy, a frightening & painful time to say the least. After recovering from this, all seemed well but only months later it was discovered that the cancer had come back and it was decided a mastectomy followed by radiation & chemotherapy would be the next step.
I could not believe how strong she was as she went through this again, still determined to make the most of the days she felt not to bad.
Eventually all the treatment came to an end and after a few months Margaret was feeling better. After having gone through two years of fighting cancer and given the "all clear" she had decided at 63 not to go back to work & got two puppies, feeling like her energy had come back, and looked forward to retirement.
Christmas day 2015 was lovely and we toasted that 2016 be a much better year and looked forward to enjoying life!!
Sadly within a short time in the new year it was discovered that the cancer had returned and had spread to the lung and other parts of the body. This was a huge shock.
Through this time she had such courage she said "I don't know how many days I have left so I don't want to spend them down & sad when I can try to enjoy them as much as I can "
The aggressive cancer spread so quick she became very unwell & weak so it was not possible to start any treatment & within seven weeks she passed away on the 2/4/16.
Margaret was a grandmother , a mother , a wife a sister to five siblings & a great friend to many. She was not ready to go yet.
This affects to many of us. Scarily it seems to many people have lost a loved one with cancer, far to early in their lives.
There are also many that have survived cancer and with constant re-search and new treatments hopefully many more in the future.
It felt right to try & raise some money for Cancer research who do not receive any government funding & rely on donations to keep on coming up with new research that can be used for diagnosing & treating cancer . Hopefully one day a cure can be found to let people enjoy more time with family & friends !
I am running in memory of Margaret Walker a truly wonderful woman that will never be forgotten.
