My husband, Chris, has been poorly for several years. Throughout this time we received superb care from the NHS, specifically our doctor, Alston Medical Practice, District Nurses, HCPs and the Freeman Hospital. However, since mid October Chris's health rapidly deteriorated and, once it was evident that there was no more medical intervention possible, we wanted to care for him at home.

At home we continued to receive the outstanding level of care and support from our doctor and NHS teams, including the Carlisle Palliative Care team, but there is extreme pressure when considering 24 hour care. At this point, initiated by one of the supportive groups, I was contacted by the charity Hospice at Home and was offered their help, including overnight support which enabled the 24 hour care that was needed. i can't articulate the impact of this, both practically and mentally.
