Story
BCHA has supported vulnerable people for over 50 years, helping over 10,000 people off the streets, out of abuse, over skills barriers and onto independence and work each year. Our mission is to help people take control of their own lives. Wherever people feel vulnerable or stuck, we want to equip them to find a way forward, by offering the highest standards of support for housing, health, learning and work - or any combination of these needs.
“Speak to a flower sweetly and it will grow. Speak to a flower callously and it will still grow, just in different ways.”
The women living at the refuge know this very well, they have been that flower and in some cases still are. We want to provide the women and their children with an outdoor space that meets their needs and gives them the opportunity to bond, communicate their feelings and occupy their time more meaningfully by using nature.
The money raised will be spent on changing the outdoor space at the refuge into a community allotment with some sensory garden features for the
children. Wessex Water have generously funded a small, accessible allotment of raised beds will be built to enable the women and their children to grow produce and spend time outdoors, whilst
adhering to social distancing measures. We want to add and enhance the rest of the garden so it has sensory features such as scented plants, water features, touch pads, sand pit and edible plants, and plenty of outdoor seating and beautiful ornaments for refection and recreation.
Many thanks for your support from all the team at BWR! We look forward to sharing our progress with you!
